The design for the new 41st Precinct Station House in the Bronx answers the programmatic requirements inherent in modern urban police operations and provides a building that strengthens an old and resurgent community while still creating a civic structure that is inviting to the community and executed in a cost effective design.

The building is an architectural anchor at the important neighborhood intersection of Longwood Avenue and Southern Boulevard. The diagonal façade and paved plaza strengthen the de-mapped link to Lafayette Avenue providing continuity under and through the raised portion of the Bruckner Expressway. The exterior use of brick masonry and precast concrete is modern; but it employs true arches and band courses in rhythms that are in harmony with the strong architecture of the adjacent industrial buildings.

The interior is planned to efficiently rationalize the competing requirements of the administrative and patrol requirements of the station, the multiple circulation demands for public and police functions and the complex vehicular circulation requirements of a New York City Police Station. The circulation and organizational patterns developed with the NYPD are considered the standard for design all new police precincts in New York.

The 41st Precinct is the recipient of the 1994 Concrete Industry Board Award of Merit.
