Services

ARG Conservation Services (ARG/CS) is a General Contracting Conservation firm whose staff consists of architectural conservators, objects conservators, preservation architects, maintenance specialists, and construction managers. The firm specializes in the physical conservation of large works of art, existing historic buildings, architectural features, and monuments using specialty contractors and its own resources. These types of projects require expertise in conservation treatment of archaic materials as well as thorough management during the construction phase. To meet these requirements, ARG/CS can provide material conservation studies, survey and treatment recommendation services, design-build conservation services, or construction management, depending on the needs of the project. Additional services include: hands-on conservation treatments, test panels, and material and technique mock-up panels; Construction management; Design-Build remedial repair and conservation contracting; Historic Preservation; Sustainable Design.

ARG/CS is a fully licensed California general contracting firm (license number 799537), meeting the insurance and safety requirements of cultural resource stewards such as the National Park Service, California State Parks, and City Arts Commissions.

Focus

ARG/CS undertakes only highly specialized work within the niche market of conservation of built heritage. The team of conservators and construction specialists is not in competition with masonry, waterproofing, painting, or other contractors whose focus are typical rehabilitation projects. ARG/CS is a group of highly qualified conservators who execute conservation treatments for immovable cultural property. Further, ARG/CS is able to manage multidisciplinary conservation efforts that require the participation of traditional trades working together with conservation professionals in a collaborative approach. The firm approaches all conservation projects based upon the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) Code of Ethics and Standards.

ARG/CS serves both public and private clients. Public clients include government agencies with inventories of monuments and architectural artifacts. Private clients include owners of historic theaters, hotels, office towers, and other types of buildings with significant exteriors, interior finishes, or works of art in an architectural setting.
