Abruzzo, Italy

Abruzzo is a region in eastern central Italy, east of Rome, reaching from mountains down to the Adriatic Sea. It includes well-preserved hill towns and the medieval mountain city of L'Aquila. The area was struck by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake at 3:30am on Monday morning, April 6, 2009.
