Add a Building Product

1. Before adding a new building product to Archiplanet, please search the wiki carefully for the product name, to make sure that specific product is not already included.

  • To add a building product manufacturer, please use the "Add a Firm, Company, or Association" section above, and choose "Building Product Manufacturer" in the "Firm Type" pop-up menu.

2. To add a new building product at Archiplanet, first, go to this blank building product template, and select the wiki text there (within the dotted box), and copy that text.

3. Next, create a new page for the product: Type the full product name into the "search" field (just below the planet icon in the top of the left sidebar). Then click the "Search" button, which will bring up the "Search Results" page. Click the link text in the first line that says, "create this page". That brings up the new empty product page in "Editing " mode.

  • For both branded products and generic products, the product page name should generally be the full product name. You can use a product number or code at the end of the product name if necessary.

4. Now, paste the wiki text of the blank template into the "Editing " field on the new product page.

5. Then, fill in the fields in the new blank page for the new product, being careful to edit only data — to the right of the equal sign on each template line — and not the formatting, so as to keep the page structure intact.

6. Then click the "save page" just below the editing field to save the page and see what it looks like. Repeat the "edit" and "save" steps (or use preview) as necessary to refine the new page.

  • You may want to refer to this example product for guidance on how to use the basic fields.
  • You can return to the product page and update it at any time.

Add a Design Studio

1. Before adding a new design studio course page set to Archiplanet, please search the wiki carefully for the studio name, to make sure that specific studio is not already included.

2. To add a new design studio at Archiplanet, first, go to this blank design studio template page, and select the wiki text there (within the dotted box), and copy that text.

3. Next, create a new page for the studio: Type the full design studio name, preferably following the naming convention "(Year) (Term)-(School Initials or short name) (Course Code)-(Instructor Name) Studio" (see example) into the "search" field (just below the planet icon in the top of the left sidebar).

Then click the "Search" button, which will bring up the "Search Results" page. Click the link text in the first line that says, "create this page". That brings up the new empty studio page in "Editing " mode.

4. Now, paste the wiki text of the blank template into the "Editing " field on the new studio page.

  • You may want to refer to this example studio for guidance on how to use the basic fields and subpages.
  • You can return to the studio page and update it at any time.

Add Yourself as a Student

1. Start the process of adding yourself as a architecture, engineering, design, or building student at Archiplanet, by creating a free user account here. Then log in to the wiki using your own free account.

2. To add a new design studio at Archiplanet, first, go to this blank student info template page, and select the wiki text there (within the dotted box), and copy that text.

3. Next, go to your "user page", with a URL like http://www.archiplanet.org/wiki/User:John21, where John21 is replaced with your actual user name. You can also look yourself up in the the list.

Go to your page, and then click the link text in the response line that says, "create this page" (or "edit this page" if it already exists). That brings up your new empty user page in "Editing " mode.

4. Now, paste the wiki text of the blank template into the "Editing " field on your new user page. This updates its data formatting for your design or building student info.

5. Then, fill in the fields in the new blank page for yourself, being careful to edit only data — to the right of the equal sign on each template line — and not the formatting, so as to keep the page structure intact.

6. Then click the "save page" just below the editing field to save the page and see what it looks like. Repeat the "edit" and "save" steps (or use preview) as necessary to refine the new page.

  • You may want to refer to this example student page for guidance on how to use the basic fields.
