Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is a national practice built on the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, and piping/plumbing engineering. In 2002, AEI approached Flad Architects to plan and design a new building for the Madison, Wisconsin office that would reflect their growing
interest in environmentally responsible design.
Flad created a building with an open plan concept, flexible integrated work spaces, and a sensitivity to its environment. Design priorities for the project included conservation of the greenfield site, responsible storm water management, maximizing the use of natural light, attention to internal air quality, and minimizing construction waste.
Located in a research park on Madison’s near west side, AEI’s headquarters is not only an example of exceptional, responsible design, it was the first LEED certified building in the city.
