[edit] Services

Archaeon, Inc. is a nationally recognized and published, award winning architecture firm, known for its ability to deliver practical yet creative residential and commercial architectural designs, clever renovations and stunning commercial interiors. We are headquartered in the metropolitan Washington DC area and conveniently located near Alexandria, Arlington, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Georgetown, Great Falls, McLean, Potomac, and Tysons Corner.

Our architects believe great spaces are measured by those who inhabit them - not by those who design them. As such, we are dedicated to creating functional, friendly environmentally influenced and client-inspired designs to house interior spaces that reflect the way people live, work, and relax. Environments designed for our clients, to fit their specific needs.

Archaeon consistently delivers an exceptional and positive experience from planning to completion.

Visit Archaeon's web site to see our residential and commercial architecture photo galleries, read our client testimonials. Learn how the design team at Archaeon can make your architectual vision a reality.

At Archaeon, we want you to love your new home or renovated space. To that end, we listen intently to your wants and needs. We research alternative materials, collaborate with you throughout the process and develop solutions that will create that perfect space. We respect preferences and budget, and endeavor to ensure that every project is reasonably priced.

Our mission is to plan and design spaces that promote productivity and comfort, and reflect the personality of their owners. Rather than work from a portfolio of past ideas and projects, we thrive on creating fresh new environments inspired by you.

In everything we do, you'll find an emphasis on the qualities that create a more productive and appealing environment. First, we listen. We want to hear what you want and need in your future space, and what you view as limitations in your current space. We then incorporate those crucial details into the design process. It is in our nature to demonstrate high integrity and ethical behavior throughout the project. We take pride in our ability to deliver solutions that control costs, maximize value and use "green" solutions as appropriate.

Archaeon was founded in 1986 by Principal Robert Wilkoff (Pratt Institute graduate; BArch, NCARB member). Based in Cabin John, Maryland, Archaeon has provided a wide range of residential and commercial solutions in the greater Washington, DC area and around the world.

With more than 30 years experience in projects ranging from residential renovations to multi-million dollar commercial buildings, we remain committed to active principal participation in every project and a focus on listening to the underlying needs of each client.

Whether your project requires historic preservation, cutting edge contemporary design or a heightened level of accessibility, Archaeon combines teamwork and management skills with a complete array of design software and hardware systems, resulting in superior architectural design and an unprecedented rate of client satisfaction.

Our work has been featured on HGTV, in Washingtonian Magazine, The Washington Post, Washington Home & Design Magazine, Spaces, and Southern Living, among others.

GREEN ARCHITECTURE

Green Architecture. Sustainability. Energy conservation. These are just a few of the many hot buzzwords in design right now. However, at Archaeon, this idea is not just the flavor of the month. It has been an integral part of Archaeon’s philosophy since we opened our doors.

It comes down to this: Everyone wants to save money, and (just about) everyone wants to feel good about the types of materials they’re using in their home or commercial space, but what’s the best way to achieve this? We know that solar and wind may be America’s best prospects for clean energy production, but these solutions are rarely practical or cost efficient for the individual home owner. This is why we have always suggested to our clients the use of thicker insulation and energy efficient windows, which are the simplest and most cost-efficient options to cut down on bills and reduce energy consumption over time in their home. And in every project, we look for ways to conserve water and incorporate renewable materials wherever possible. There are many ways to design green, without significantly raising costs in the process.

Our approach begins at the foundation, and focuses on each and every design decision. We all want to reduce our carbon footprint, and there are many simple, subtle ways to do that through the design process.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN

Spiral staircases and high countertops may work for some, but those design elements are certainly not accessible to everyone.

An often overlooked element in architecture is universal design, also known as “barrier-free” or “accessible” design. Archaeon has designed multiple projects for people with disabilities including the addition of elevators, special ramps, wider hallways and other special products and systems. Universal design is more generally about making a space accessible to all who enter it - disabled or not.
