"The Biodesign Institute, created to encourage interdisciplinary research and collaboration in biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology, will eventually fill a 13-acre site on the eastern edge of the university's campus. The first building joins two masses, one sheathed in brick and the other in glass, that house labs, offices, and support space. The building was designed with a special structural system to minimize vibration in areas that will house delicate instruments, as well as with windows and atriums that will bring daylight into labs and offices.
