Discussion

Charles has over twelve years experience creating engaging modern architecture for clients in Raleigh, North Carolina and the surrounding region. He is the Principal of Oxide Architecture and Oxide Structure, designing and building spaces that strive to find a balance between modern and sensuous; spaces that invite people to discover the delight and vitality in the honest expression of material and place.

Prior to forming the Oxide companies, Charles was co-founder and Raleigh architect for Tonic Design and Tonic Construction, where he helped implement a unique, dynamic design-build approach that continues to produce award-winning work. Most recently, the Chiles Residence in Raleigh - for which Charles was lead architect and member of the design-build team - was celebrated with a 2006 NC AIA Honor Award.

Prior to Tonic, Charles worked with Frank Harmon, Architect, contributing to over fifty projects, first as an intern, then as a project manager, and finally as one of the studio's architects. Charles' work at Frank Harmon contributed to more than a half dozen award-winning buildings, including the Penland School of Crafts' Iron Studio in Penland, North Carolina.

Charles graduated from North Carolina State University's School of Design in Raleigh, North Carolina with a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, a Bachelors of Environmental Design in Architecture, and a Bachelor of Architecture Degree, Cum Laude.
