Hovering on a knoll, the Charof Residence is approached up a northern slope with living spaces opening towards the southern ocean view. Private sleeping quarters provide a base for the second level double-height living spaces. Two decks permit outdoor living, the roof deck accessible by a spiral stair which twists through the back of the house's three-story volume. Although built for a specific client, the residence also represents an attempt to create a prototype plan which could be duplicated for under $50,000.
