"In 2003, Union College purchased a 30-year-old, seven-story former Ramada Inn two blocks from the campus. The renovation of the building to serve as housing for 230 Union students posed several challenges. The architects borrowed design elements -- such as stucco walls, colonnades, and arcades -- from some of the college's Federal-style structures to give the building a new exterior that identified it with the college. In addition, the project added new heat and air-conditioning systems, study and meeting areas, and a fitness center. " — Chronicle of Higher Education
