[edit] Services

The contexture studio was founded in New York in 2005 by architect Maximilian M. Knoll as a cluster for creative arts. Located in Italy the studio today stands for high performance in contextual design merging the field of architecture, interior design and branding. The practice provides research, consulting services, conceptual studies as well as building design and implementation.

[edit] Focus

Our goal is to explore design solutions merging scape, space and surface to a solid communication level in context to setting, needs and potentials: Form follows function - the form of the object not only has to enable the function but straightly denotates this, so it’s not “just possible”, but also desirable and leads to motions that are perfectly suitable to fulfil this function. We believe that “conflicts” are the biggest challenges and yet the main sources for innovative design. Whether the conflict lies by the budget, or with neighbours, with the establishment or the schedule, every design- or architectural intervention is a conflict with the given “context”. Our challenge is not to find compromises or by choosing sides, nor by ignoring it - but by feeding of it. We believe that every part of a physical structure and social network – depending on the material or media and its function – contains an enormous potential of formal possibilities. The nature of our design lies in picking up, visualizing and interpreting these demands in order to step towards a new contextual design. We believe that the genius of an architect or designer doesn’t make a new shape functional yet (and doesn’t give the shape to a new function) if it’s not based on existing codification processes. In our highly globalized society this codes aren’t physical symbols anymore, but unwritten poetry of values, hopes and beauty.
