History of the Firm in New Mexico
DWL•NM has a fifty year history in New Mexico.
• In 1956 Mr. John Kruger & Gerald Lake formed Kruger
Lake Architectural Firm.
• In 1979 Ron Hutchinson & James Brown joined the firm to
become Kruger Lake Hutchinson Brown & Associates.
• Mr. Kruger and Mr. Lake retired and the firm became
Hutchinson Brown Burton & Partners.
• Mr. Hutchinson died in 1984 and the firm became Brown
Burton & Partners.
• Mr. Willard Eastman joined the firm in 1987
• In 1989, the firm was purchased, by DWL Architects + Planners,
Inc., a Phoenix-based firm.
• In 1996, the New Mexico branch of DWL decided on an
amicable split with the Phoenix firm. This allowed DWL
New Mexico to focus the firm’s marketing, design and
business management exclusively to New Mexico.
• Mr. Burton and Mr. Eastman are the corporation
shareholders.
The firm devotes its energies entirely to the New Mexico
climate, culture, and economy.

DWL Architects & Planners, Inc., of New Mexico (DWL•NM) vision/mission and business philosophy is focused and founded on four components:

Responsive service entails an attitude of listening to the client’s
needs and continually striving to demonstrate a desire to exceed project requirements and client needs. Assembling the best team for the project type that will reflect the Clients stated Mission and Vision.
Quality design is a comprehensive integration of all aspects of facility design: innovative concepts, creation of safe and comfortable site and building environments, economical to operate and maintain, durable materials, sustainable, energy efficient, respectful of history,
culture, context and climate, and responsive to present and cuture needs.
Proven processes are systematic methodologies resulting in projects that meet client budget, programmatic and schedule needs. Those processes include communication systems, project quality checking systems, cost and schedule control, design reviews, and construction methodologies that reflect maintenance and operation realities.
Sustainability involves the belief that design of your buildings must be energy efficient and ecologically friendly, economical to maintain and operate, and be healthy, comfortable and safe environments.
The firm is a member of the United States Green Building Council.
