“Built in 1760 just north of Danville, the meeting house accommodated both worship and town functions for years, in the dual capacity typical of the day…Its simple, symmetrical, gabled form is uninterrupted by spire or chimney (the buiding being heatless), while its upper windows nudge the eaves… Only the Classic framing of the front door eases the starkness—with a touch of help from the random stonework of the foundation.</p>
“The interior follows the usual meeting house pattern of main door opposite pulpit, box pews—here with airy spindles—and balcony on three sides. Since the Word was central to the religious service, the pulpit and its sounding board are prominent, the pilasters on the side picking up the slight touch of the Classic seen on the front door.”</p>
