[edit] Firm Statement
Daub Architecture is located in New Paltz, New York. The firm specializes in sustainable design, serving primarily the Hudson Valley and New York City. Projects include a range of residential and commercial endeavors, from new construction to adaptive reuse of existing structures.
Daub Architecture was initially founded in 1917 by Sidney Daub (b. 1894), a registered architect. He graduated from Cooper Union and opened an office in Manhattan, near City Hall. A member of the New York Society of Architects and the American Institute of Architects, Daub practiced alone from 1919, during which time he was hired by the Kehila Kadosha Janina congregation to design their new synagogue building. In 1960, after his son Gerald graduated (with honors) from Pratt Institute, they formed a partnership under the name of Daub and Daub. Together, they designed numerous residential, commercial, educational and religious structures, some of which are included in the Upper West Side/ Central Park West Historic District, the Ladies Mile Historic District, and the Upper East Side Historic District. Gerald Daub served on Building Code Committees of the Brooklyn Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the NY Society of Architects, and the NYC Building Commissioner’s Ad Hoc Study Committee of Multiple Dwelling Laws. He was awarded the Gold medal for excellence in Design and Construction from the New York Society of Architects. Gerald’s son, David Daub, joined the firm in 1982 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a masters degree in Land Use planning. Attending City College, he attained a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and was licensed to practice architecture in 1990. He has been NCARB-certified, and a member of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA).
The Architects enjoy the disciplines of design, which begin with hearing the desires of clients, seeing the environment, then visualizing and rendering the projects. Daub Architecture has provided consultation, planning, and design to many of Manhattan’s exclusive residential clients. These include Hampshire House Central Park South, Wellington Hotel 7th Ave, Alden at Central Park West. In the neighborhoods of SoHo, NoHo, Tribeca, Chelsea, and Williamsburg, Daub adapted factory buildings, for loft living. Green space emerges from the rooftops, from their designs of numerous terraced penthouses on the Upper West side.
