Mr. McCarthy is the founding and managing partner of DesignARC LA inc., and is co-Director of Design with Mark Kirkhart. He has primary responsibility for establishing the firm’s design objectives, its business management goals and client relations.
Mr. McCarthy has acted as Partner-in-Charge for numerous award-winning academic, residential and commercial projects including the Outer and Standard Precincts of the Seaver Residence Halls and the Seaver Board Room at Pepperdine University, hospitality projects for SBE Entertainment including Katsuya Hollywood, Katsuya Glendale and Katsuya at LA Live!, the Luxe Lakes Housing Development in Chengdu China, commercial projects for Cybertouch, Caspian Networks and AMP Inc., and mixed-use multi-family housing projects for Palm Springs Modern Homes, Nexus Residential Communities, and Merlone Geier-GLJ Partners. Under his direction, a suite of Palm Springs multi-family residential projects received a CCAIA merit award under the Urban Planning category.
Mr. McCarthy has taught at the University of Southern California as an Adjunct Lecturer in Design, and has been a guest critic at various schools of architecture, including the Southern California Institute of Architecture, the University of California at Los Angeles, Otis College of Art and Design, The Art Center College of Design, and Arizona State University.
Mr. McCarthy is a licensed architect in the State of California.
