"Designed to teach residents about sustainable living, this 36-bed dormitory draws electricity from photovoltaic panels, takes as much advantage of daylight as possible, and relies on natural ventilation rather than air-conditioning. Its roof is made of recycled steel, and the building has two types of toilets, one flushed with rainwater collected in an old railroad tank car and the other employing a composting system. The siding is wood, chiefly from trees removed from college land because of a beetle infestation. " — Chronicle of Higher Education
