Discussion
The first rotating boat lift. The machine weighs 1,500 tons; height: 115 ft./35 m.; width: 35 m.; length: 30 m. Cost: US $26,900,000. Transports barges between the Forth & Clyde Canal and the Grand Union Canal. Replaces 11 locks. M G Bennett & Associates designed mechanical and electrical equipment for the wheel. The two containers hold at least 250,000 L. water. Can transport eight boats at once.
