Commentary
"Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the famous Quincy Building have been part of Boston's history for nearly two centuries. They provide a key core element in the existing city pattern and have, as part of a comprehensive redevelopment for a new generation and new uses, been most sensitively revived. They provide the historical backcloth for modern commercial, leisure and recreational facilities on the grand scale. Masonry dominates, lending credence to the architect's desires for what they called authentic genuineness as a goal, in which the validity of a live and continuous tradition was carefully considered."
Dennis Sharp. Twentieth Century Architecture: a Visual History. p335.
"Here a once-rundown but historic area has been transformed into a vibrant complex of restaurants and shops with office space inconspicuously provided upstairs in renovated landmarks. Well-chosen graphics and hardy landscaping brighten pedestrian spaces; aisles alongside the complex's long buildings are glassed over to extend market space all year-round."
from Sylvia Hart Wright. Sourcebook of Contemporary North American Architecture: From Postwar to Postmodern. p140.
