[edit] Discussion

Fausto Ferrara (Rom,1965) is italian architect, artist and designer. He studied architecture in Rome, graduating in 1991 and regularly attended the circles of artists, Enrico Castellani, Achille Perilli, Teodosio Magnoni, Pino Barillà, Gianni Asdrubali, Carlo Bernardini, Paola D'Ercole and others. After an initial period of work at construction sites, since 1980, having the good fortune to have the building contractor father, decides to start a long personal experience of vision and perception of the body architecture that will lead to start long study trips to Europe, Asia and North America. He moves away from the teachings of the Roman school and of the university to start his own architectural vision to the point to define himself self-taught. Start , since 1999, his interest and later his studies on Zen philosophy and the comparison with the philosophy of ontological and transcendental derivation of human beings, with clear references to Martin Heidegger. Studies on meditation bring him it to develop his own philosophical view of architecture and of the architect in the contemporary world, how to be devoted to the realization of spaces and places that make the man more and more aware of own essence, as living being on earth under the sky. Through sensitization paths, born so his "prototype space", the only function to which they are inspired is that spiritual, understood as a path to sensitization; itself becomes an element of relationship, through the “silence” between the man and the phenomenology of the natural elements (2005 Spazio sensoriale, Hudson, NY, USA; 2010 Water Pavilion, Hudson, NY, USA). In 2003 he began his research design path on the sensorial and on the bodily perception of the places, in the search of an architecture of the “silence”. Founds in Viterbo and subsequently to Chicago, at present with Valeria Agliolo Quartalaro , her design studio, studio arckeo architetti & associati, a real research lab between art and architecture both national and international, at the point to define him an architect-artist (Franco Purini). His projects are full of poetry, meditation, worlds in the world, with strong references to nature; Fundamental element of the architecture is water, which is often used as an not material. Ferrara creates places of the mind, real poetry written in balanced volumes, clean lines dictated by the natural light. (P.Daverio) It's structures recall at the modernism, which feels a part, giving an important contribution to the unification of the artistic lexicons, in the idea of an completeness between art and architecture, as they had tried to do the artistic movements of the beginning of the twentieth century. From Cubism to Suprematism, from Futurism to Constructivism, from Expressionism to De Stijil. (Purini, prefazione a Spazi sensoriali). In its architecture, there are clear references to past masters such as Mies Van der Rohe and Louis I. Kahn; its labyrinthine places refer to the classical tradition, with clear citations to Giovan Battista Piranesi; but it is evident a clear and sharp completeness of the draft. In its projects there is a totality of the sign and of the sense, timeless an architecture, timeless architecture, his compositions architectural seem fact spring from the desire to think of them, represent them and build them.(F.Purini o.c)
