[edit] Discussion
Gateway Crossing replaces 210 distressed public housing units with 386 new, mixed-income rental and affordable for-sale units. The plan expands the original public housing site, carefully incorporating former industrial parcels, railroad land, and existing private homes to create a continuum of RES components. The plan also links the site to a nearby commercial corridor, schools, parks, and other services. New homes were designed to recall the city's historic architecture to encourage better integration, socially, economically, and physically, with the broader Hagerstown community. A new 23,000-SF community center, located on a park at the edge of the new development, cemented this integration.
