[edit] Discussion

"Giralang Primary School is a significant example of the organic architectural style of prominent local architect Enrico Taglietti. The unusual flexible plan school is designed to meet a brief for the open plan education philosophy and is one of the few occasions when architecture is used to reinforce an educational idea. The innovative design solution provides a school which has elements of fun and drama, reinforced by architectural detailing and scale. The Assembly Hall in particular is of interest where the proscenium arch is quite low, in scale with the young performers. The siting of the building is significant at the southern tip of the neighbourhood and combined with other community facilities. It is an unusual planning approach with a single pedestrian flow for children to the school site. The building`s complexity of form and architectural interest make an outstanding contribution to the environment. The building was awarded the Canberra Medallion in 1977." – [1]
