As an extension of the architecture of the residence the hardscape is an extensive network of concrete retaining walls and concrete cantilevered steps that transverse the sloped terrain. A lush tropical garden arises and flourishes, all specified by landscape architect, Eric Nagelman with owner Mr. Goldstein. The concrete steps are exhibits of the versatility for reinforced concrete to cantilever long distances and have strong thin edges and be highly durable. The pathways reach out and extend the prolific architecture of the Sheats / Goldstein Residence built by [John Lautner] in 1963. The paths move along steep topography and are enclosed by natural spaces that wander and open to grand vistas of the city of Los Angeles to the ocean.
