Henriquez Partners Architects is an architectural firm based in Vancouver, Canada. The studio was founded by Richard Henriquez in 1979 and has under his leadership attained national recognition for design excellence in both the private and public sectors. In 2005 Richard Henriquez was awarded the RAIC Gold Medal for Architcture which is Canada's highest honour. In recent years his son and partner Gregory Henriquez has taken the lead in the management of the firm which has 25 architects on staff and two associates Rui Nunes and Peter Wood.
Gregory Henriquez is the Managing Partner and is best known for the design of several community-based mixed-use, institutional, and social housing projects in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Canada. In his book "Towards an Ethical Architecture" the authors discuss the urgent need to re-examine the role of ethics, activism and critical commentary in architectural practise. The discussion is founded upon the belief that meaningful architecture must be a poetic expression of social justice.
Henriquez Partners Architects is currently building the socially inclusive Woodward's Redevelopment, the largest mixed-use project in the history of Vancouver. They have won many B.C. Lieutenant-Governor's Awards, in 2004 received a Governor General's Medal in Architecture for the Lore Krill Housing Co-operative and was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts , both partner have been elected as Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and Gregory Henriquez was awarded an Honorary Degree in History & Theory of Architecture from the McGill University and in 2008 was honoured as a Carleton Unverisity Great Grad during the conference celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the School of Architecture. |
