It should be noted that "designed by John Curtis," while true, does not tell the whole story, and could be misconstrued, especially given the current name of the house.

Curtis was not an architect or designer by trade working for someone named Houghton. He was a member of a prominent local family who designed and built the house he would live in for 27 years, until it was acquired by Abel and Amelia Houghton.

Four generations of Houghtons lived in the house until it was sold, to be used as a Funeral Home.
