| Notes | Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects, says Thomas A. Kligerman (center), is experiencing something of a “perennial island spring” in terms of the settings of several major projects. In development are residences on the islands of Maui and Hawaii and on Huppers Island, Maine; Paradise Island in the Bahamas; Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; and Long Island, New York. An earlier wood-construction retreat on Orcas Island, off the coast of Washington, initiated the theme. The island most central to the firm’s practice, however, remains Manhattan: Nearly two decades ago Kligerman and John Ike (left) established a presence on the New York residential design scene with their user-friendly interpretation of traditional architecture—a “synthesizing of historical precedent with contemporary tastes,” as Ike puts it—in a series of notable houses. -AD 100:Ike Kligerman Barkley |
