A local geotechnical engineering firm in need of new space and more of it decided to purchase a condominium office building in the Black Mountain Business Park situated in an industrial area of the City of Henderson. The 10,750 s.f. tenant space includes offices, a conference room, materials testing lab and mezzanine storage area for the firm. Using some of the materials that the company generates, almost daily, in the interior design elements provided some fun and interest. For example, the concrete testing cylinders were placed inside the base cabinets within several workstations and is prominently placed at the front desk. The concrete foundation floors were either polished or stained for easy maintenance and the testing lab can be cleaned simply by turning a hose on the floor. Some of the countertops throughout the office are concrete. The company participated in the pouring of the concrete for several of the countertops, using the exercise as a learning experience for young staff members. The total construction cost of this project: $800,000.
