JUAN CARLOS BAUMGARTNER: DIRECTOR OF SPACE MEXICO-LATIN AMERICA
Juan Carlos Baumgartner was born in Mexico City, in 1972. He attended the School of Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico for his bachelor’s degree. With his thesis, Day Care Center for Alzheimer's patients, he was the first pupil to graduate with his proposed thesis built and culminated in the regular period of time.
He subsequently studied a specialty in Art History, at the University of California, Berkeley, a graduate course in Interior Design, at UNAM’s School of Architecture, and a graduate course in Industrial Design at the Domus Academy, in Milan.
While collaborating with various offices of architecture in Mexico City, he won the second place in the V International Contest for Young Architects organized by the IUA in France, and the first place in the National Architecture Competition Five lines, a point, at Querétaro.
As a result of the above, several job offers abroad came up, one of them in Space, a design firm with the closest approach to his conception of architecture. His career at Space Chicago began in 1996, as an associate architect, . In the following two years he won the Award of the French Section of the International Union of Architects, in Perpignan, France, he was finalist in the 12th Membrane Design Competition "Station for a small city" in Tokyo, Japan, and finalist in the International Contest: Of water and ground, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Given the need to follow up the Latin American market and parallel to the growth of Space outside the United States, Baumgartner founded Space Mexico - Latin America in 1999, with its headquarters in Mexico City.
Currently Architect Baumgartner, in collaboration with Space Mexico, undertakes projects not only in Mexico, but also in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Within his work portfolio he has got multiple projects in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and in Mexico. In recent years he has taken part in more than 30 international competitions, having being distinguished with several awards both in Mexico and abroad.
Architect Baumgartner has been Professor of architectural design in the Technological Institute of Monterrey, Mexico State Campus and guest lecturer at the National University of Mexico and Motolinia University.

Juan Carlos work has been publish in more than 40 magazines and 10 books.
Baumgartner has just finish the design of a office building in Mexico City , this projects has been selected as tree of the best projects at the MIPIM Architectural Review future projects awards 09 in Cannes France.
