"Actually, in the public spaces at least, there were no doors. That was part of Kapalua's appeal. When you stepped into the cavernous open-air lobby, you saw textbook Hawaii and felt its tropical winds. They blew in from the royal blue channel separating Maui from Molokai, across the broad sweep of lawn, over shaggy palms and right into the beams. Gusts fluttered emerald fronds and magenta orchids in the half-orb planters, while cheeky peach-tinted birds flitted down from the rafters, stealing crumbs off plates. At Kapalua, the outside was in." — Debra A. Klein, New York Times
