Kettle Brand Foods, the largest manufacturer of natural potato chips in the United States, experienced significant growth over the past ten years. In an effort to increase production and better serve their east coast customers, Kettle Foods worked with Flad Architects to build a new manufacturing plant with additional production and processing capabilities, as well as new office and employee support spaces.
This new facility processes 50 million pounds of potatoes per year, boosting the output by more than 50 percent. The plant utilizes “environmentally friendly” reuse and recycling processes.
Kettle Foods’ company history is showcased in the display area. A curtain wall at the open office area provides ample natural light and views, connecting the building inhabitants with their environment. A trellis-covered entry walkway softens the scale of the building while affording solar shading to the glazed portion of the breakroom. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification and continues to promote Kettle Food’s friendly “work in my shoes” environment.
