[edit] Projects

[edit] Chinese Laundry - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio designed a three story restaurant and ultra lounge all within a space of less than 1,000 sf per floor. This design was achieved by adding a glass floor in between the first and the second floor, allowing patrons to see down into the dining room and lower level lounge. To enhance the voyeuristic design, LDL Studio used original photographs of an Asian model wrapped in laundry.

LDL Studio renovated a 45 year old Chinese laundry building into a small Sushi bar/lounge. One of the signature features at this property is a custom built glass floor using a German manufacturer's structural glass system allowing for transparency and or opacity based on client's preference through an electronic control switch.

Details: 3,200 sf sushi bar/lounge with roughly 1,000 sf per floor; 100 seating capacity; all glass addition on rear of historical building

Location: Rhode Island

[edit] Finz: Seafood & Grill - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio was asked to design a traditional New England seafood house with a more modern & trendy atmosphere to attract a wide demographic of patrons. Our design solution created a lively seating arrangement of smaller pods and much larger/traditional family style tables accommodating groups of any size allowing for a versatile and cost effective space.

The Finz restaurant group hired LDL Studio to provide full architectural and interior design services for their second location. The Restaurant was designed to include a fresh seafood market providing seafood for sale, and off the menu take-out items. The main restaurant also included a 150 seat banquet facility and a casual lounge area for guests to enjoy live music.

Details: 14,000 sf restaurant with 5,000 function room; 240 seating capacity with 150 banquet and 40 in bar/lounge

[edit] The Sporting House Tavern - Nightclub Design

LDL Studio was asked to create a 24 hour a day/seven day a week tavern and grill that set the bar for sports themed venues, and provided a destination for patrons to enjoy and gather at any time, day or night. The design was highlighted by a Sports Wall in which LDL Studio created an audio visual experience of over 35 HD televisions including live feeds highlighting global sporting events.

LDL Studio converted a former casual Italian restaurant into this sports themed tavern. Part of the design solution included offering entertainment such as pool tables, darts and video gaming that would not hinder the front or back of the house service.

Details: 8,000 sf restaurant

Location: Las Vegas

[edit] Citron - Restaurant Design

This was LDL Studio's fifth project for Chow Fun Food Group. For Citron they had just one objective, design a restaurant that was able to pair every food item with a wine off of their extensive menu.

LDL Studio created a modern wine bistro where patrons can enjoy an open colorful bistro, and truly experience wine through all five senses. The design was influenced by vineyard tasting rooms throughout California and the Oregon wine region.

[edit] The Riverfalls Entertainment Complex - Restaurant & Nightclub Design

LDL Studio created a design solution that incorporated a historical mill building's architecture juxtaposed with detailed glass, steel and textiles providing a concurrence between a modern entertainment complex and the historical building that they were occupying.

LDL Studio renovated a historical textile mill into an entertainment complex with a formal restaurant, two lounges, and a large piano bar. LDL Studio has also designed several outdoor venues as part of a phase II project that will abut the river's edge.

Details: 6,000 sf restaurant, 2,000 sf piano bar, 1,500 sf lounge, 1,000 sf patio lounge and a 1,500 sf commercial kitchen; 380 seating capacity

Location: Rhode Island

[edit] Sally's Fish Camp - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio created a seafood restaurant that recalls all the fun and excitement of your youth spent at a summer camp by designing a starry night ceiling, installing oversized fishing gear and as the main bar feature we placed a billboard sized custom photograph of a skinny dipper next to a fisherman as an ultimate fun fantasy.

LDL Studio converted a formal French restaurant into a fun, energetic atmosphere that encourages patrons to smile, laugh and have fun. LDL Studio worked with the owner to re-use as much of the core restaurant as possible, ultimately reducing construction time and cost.

Details: 6,000 sf restaurant with 5,000 function room; 140 seating capacity with 40 in bar/lounge

Location: Connecticut

[edit] Marriott Aqua Lounge - Hotel Design

LDL Studio was asked to re-develop and design a lounge/patio bar in an underused pool area. Marriott hotel was seeking a way to re-energize their outdoor amenities, and pool area for use by guest and outside patrons. The solution uses rich natural materials, LED lighting, a new waterfall and fire pits that create a one of a kind atmosphere and destination venue within the hotel. The project created five distinct seating areas and two private zones that could be booked for special services.

Details: 11,000 sf patio/deck lounge; 180 seating capacity

Location: Rhode Island

[edit] The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel - Hotel Design

LDL Studio was asked to create guest rooms that mirror the history and longevity of the Grand Resort Hotel while providing guests with the amenities and features they expected from a premier resort.

Working in conjunction with DNC North Hotel Management Group and TMS Architects, LDL Studio was responsible for creating a viable interior renovation scheme for all 400 hotel rooms within the Grand Hotel.

Details: 400 Guest rooms

Location: New Hampshire

[edit] Pyara Spa and Salon - Cambridge MA - Spa Design

The use of natural materials against a rich dark wood, created a sophisticated style that supported both Pyara and Aveda's objectives of designing a destination spa, offering a mood of quiet simplicity paired with honest elegance.

The layout and design of the spa and salon was two-fold; first we created a space that fulfilled as many of the salon/spa needs as possible, while still maintaining layers between the public and private areas. Second, to reduce construction cost and impact on base building we introduced raised platforms and chase walls for other services and back of the house systems building within the demising walls.

Details: 6,300 sf salon and spa; 8 treatment rooms/8 cutting stations

Location: Massachusetts

[edit] Pyara Spa and Salon - Burlington MA - Spa Design

Pyara's goal for the second location was to enlarge the elegance of the first store with color, texture, and an atmosphere that enticed the senses. LDL Studio chose to do this by using various styles of screen walls to isolate specific programs from each other enhancing the zone specific to that procedure so the treatment and space creates an overall experience.

The second location for this successful Spa/Salon enterprise was three times the square footage of the original location and includes a large open floor plan with a twenty foot column grid. In addition to the design, Pyara directed LDL Studio to fulfill all the qualifications of a LEED certified interior project.

Details: 11,800 sf spa and salon with 200 sf function room; 11 treatment rooms / 14 cutting stations

Location: Massachusetts

[edit] Spa at West Glen - Spa Design

West Glen's design goal was to create a destination spa with a sizable retail area. The client's objectives were a sophisticated material palette and design solution that granted each client as much or as little privacy as they wished. A key example of this objective is seen in spa program elements like relaxation chair zones with iPods and wooden blind dividers for privacy when closed, or socializing when open.

The main design feature was a centrally located reception area that enables two primary entrances from two separate building entrance plazas. The entrances were aligned so that all spa program rooms and service areas were far enough away from the reception area allowing for total comfort and security.

Details: 5,000 sf spa and salon with 100 sf function room; 5 treatment rooms / 2 medical spa rooms / pedicure & manicure

Location: Iowa

[edit] Gentle Essences Spa and Salon - Spa Design

Gentle Essences had two objectives in mind when we designed the layout for their project. First was the control of natural light to reduce interior heat gain, and additionally they asked for the design to be a retreat from the ordinary. The interior heat gain problem was solved by using a forty foot vegetated green screen, external wood shutter system, and a clerestory window system in the main corridor to provided filtered natural light throughout the entire project reducing solar heat from exterior natural light. The second goal was achieved by creating several retreat zones throughout the building where clients could gather between services for informal or formal meditative periods prior to their next scheduled event.

LDL Studio as the Architect of record constructed this building with eco-systems in place to combat extreme climate conditions and create a solution that reduces the building impact on the environment. We employed systems like: night cooling, green screens, and reuse of grey water. The project was designed for application/certification of an environmental friendly LEED rating.

Details: 6,800 sf building envelope; LEED; Silver rating (pending); 6 treatment rooms / 10 cutting stations

Location: Georgia

[edit] Spa Moderne - Spa Design

LDL Studio was hired to create a Spa/Salon program for male patrons. The goal of Spa Moderne was to provide a male service orientated spa allowing men to feel pampered without the social pressures of co-ed programming. The design was influenced by the historical private clubs that can be found in London, England.

Details: 10,000 sf overall (located on 25 floor); 6 treatment rooms/4 cutting stations/lounge /concierge amenities/card room/wet bar

Location: New York City

[edit] Curry College - Student Center - Cafe Design

Working with Sodexho, LDL Studio investigated the best solutions for campus food service today and for the buildings first life cycle which challenged us to create a venue that is successful, flexible and within their budgeted objectives. The design solution was highlighted by separation and distinct seating figurations, raised venues for increased sightlines and café style seating areas offering students choices between traditional seating, and other options (i.e. sports café).

LDL Studio worked with Sodexho campus services to provide food service / equipment design, architectural, and interior design scope as part of the Architectural and Engineering team under the Architect of Record CBT (Boston, MA). LDL Studio was responsible for interior fit-out of all dining services including formal dining rooms, student cafes, themed seating areas, the servery and the layout of the commercial kitchen.

Details: 18,800 sf under LDL Studio scope of service; 500 seating capacity dining rooms and 500 seats themed venues; 2,700 sf servery, 7000 sf commercial kitchen

Location: Massachusetts

[edit] Hemingway's Restaurant Complex - Restaurant & Nightclub Design

LDL Studio created a casual beachside atmosphere for patrons looking for a one stop entertainment complex that offers dancing, pool tables, and video games. In addition to the entertainment options we designed a pizza outlet, a place for sit down dining and various large island themed bars. The interior design solution was a gesture back to New Jersey boardwalk architecture, and a beach pavilion style of décor.

This is the 7th project LDL Studio has worked with Atria Inc. on. The project included the demolition of two adjacent buildings and then combining the two properties into one large entertainment complex or the flexibility to reduce its size down, creating smaller venues for off-season and mid-week events allowing for total cost control and restaurant management.

Details: 17,000 sf restaurant; 200 seating capacity restaurant, 5,000 sf dance club; 10 pool tables, 5 active bar areas

Location: New Jersey

[edit] Tavolino Restaurant - Gillette Stadium - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio created a modern/casual Italian bistro with the design being the union between landscape and building. We began with a 280-foot liner ribbon soffit with continuous 3D natural floral relief and LED lighting as the main feature over the bar and pizza bar representing nature while distinct molding, drapery, and a storefront opposite the ribbon delineate the building itself.

LDL Studio worked with Tavolino/ Siena Restaurant Group, the Patriot/Kraft Family Organization and JK Scanlan Construction to introduce a signature restaurant into this modern lifestyle mall. The project included exterior construction, storefront design and custom millwork and lighting features establishing a strong brand for the restaurant.

Details: 7,800 sf restaurant; 180 seating capacity with 30 outdoor seats; 24 seat PDR / 200 sf “To-Go” Market area

Location: Patriot Place at Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts

[edit] Tavolino Restaurant - Westborough - Restaurant Design

To continue with the language of both restaurants – LDL Studio introduced a strong continuous soffit feature throughout the restaurant sheathed with a woven wood material suggesting the image of tree bark juxtaposed to liner seating pods and millwork details within the dining space to create the nature versus building analogy used in the first restaurant.

The second restaurant project for the Tavolino/ Siena restaurant group was located in the garden level of a recently completed building addition of a historical train station/ private office building. The interior limits of ceiling height and “L” shaped space were reversed for a design solution of a high-energy casual bistro, duplicating the success of Tavolino at Patriot Place.

Details: 5,200 sf restaurant; 160 seating capacity with 30 outdoor seats

Location: Massachusetts

[edit] Iggy's Chowder House - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio was asked to design a new ground up building replacing this circa 1924 Iconic establishment on historical Oakland Beach in the heart of Rhode Island's shoreline. LD was directed by the Gravino Family (2nd generation owners) to create a destination restaurant reminiscent of the historical shore dining halls, clam shacks and chowder houses found along Rhode Island shore since the turn of the century. The design solution was to create a feeling of “having always been there and better with age” while providing the convenience and requirements of a modern day restaurant and commercial kitchen.

Iggy's hired LDL Studio to provide full architectural and interior design services for their namesake location. The restaurant was designed to meet all modern day code requirements for building within 150 feet of the shoreline and create systems from flexible take-out windows, adaptive queuing lines and systemized pick windows to accommodate more then 1,500 customers a day in peak season.

Details: 4,000 sf restaurant with 1,000 commercial kitchen; 60 seating capacity indoors, 80 outdoors

Location: Rhode Island

[edit] Providence Oyster Bar - Restaurant Design

LDL Studio was asked to create an edgy interpretation of its previously designed restaurant to work within the recently renovated airport context. The project was designed with long liner lines, glass on glass woven with stainless steel details and minimalist millwork of natural gray wood creating a 21-century oyster bar & food retail venue.

HMS Host hired LDL Studio to recreate a second location for the successful Providence Oyster Bar restaurant from downtown Providence. LDL Studio working with The Airport, HMS Host, representatives from POB and several security and food service agencies to build a state of the art highly visible food venue that raised the design level for a large volume productive food retail venue within the active airport concourse.

Details: 4,800 sf restaurant with 800 commercial kitchen; 90 seating capacity with 20 in bar/lounge
