[edit] About us

logon is a German-based international design office that specializes in integrating urban planning, architecture and landscape disciplines to provide solutions perfectly tailored to the given location and context.

The roots of logon in Germany date back to 2001. Since then, as demand has grown for full-service tailored solutions, so has logon. Identifying a maturing need for profitable, high quality construction design within the Chinese market, logon began to work in China in 2001 as an architecture and urban design service provider to private, and public (national or governmental) investors. To facilitate developing business in China mainland, 2005 marked the opening of the logon Shanghai office by entrepreneurs Frank Krueger and Wang Fang. Today, more than 50 full-time staff work at logon Shanghai.

Since its beginnings, logon has upheld its vision to design to truly embrace the needs of the end-user. This vision is enabled namely thanks to the use of German processes and quality standards but also to the commitment of logon to continuously preempt needs, namely through the research work of the in-house logon lab.

Currently, the Shanghai design office provides a full-service offering in a wide range of architectural sectors, and has successfully participated in over 160 projects all across China.

In October 2009, logon was ranked 12th position of top foreign architectural design firms in China by industry magazine “di”.

So, what is the logon difference in China?

logon is led by an experienced and complementary German-Chinese leadership team, known to think “outside the box” and yet perfectly adjust to the Chinese market. That is because we commit to giving the client the best of Europe and China by pairing skilled Chinese and Western professionals, who together leverage solid cultural, legal and empirical understanding of the local market with strong knowledge of world-class design.

[edit] Services

Regardless of the project sector, site location, country or how many times we have designed a similar project before; we always begin our design with a clear mind working closely with our client with the goal to design something new that is a perfect match to the end-user.

We can partner with our clients all design phases from design concept through to construction design. Our in-house visualization team works alongside the design team to develop project renderings; this not only improves internal communication, it saves our clients time and cost. The logon service offering include:

• project research development • sustainable design • urban planning • urban design • architecture design • renovation design • landscape design • interior design • idea visualization • construction supervision

[edit] Design thoughts

On a most fundamental level, we consider good design to be design which truly embraces the needs of the user: the person or group who will use the space. We come alongside the client’s need and analyze it together and with our experience, we create brand new ideas for brand new user experiences.

In contrast to many architectural agencies, we believe the analysis and research phase is critical to determine a fitting design solution. We consider it a disfavor to our clients to purposefully overlook terrain, culture, location, people or traffic flows. Thanks to this phase, many logon design proposals can integrate existing topography, culture or former building usages adapted in a new way. Where appropriate, a site might be best restored, retaining the bridge to a former identity while taking on a new form and use. This is a transformation of a relinquished space into an experiential place, reminiscent of its past. In other cases, a brand new business case is built, allowing a durable return on our client’s investment.

Adapting to location and context and the use of high standard materials invariably increases energy-saving efforts. We know that high-standard materials are too often substituted by a technology-fad frenzy. On a most basic level, using green grass roofs can greatly help to regulate temperature, just like positioning can increase sunlight, reducing electricity and so on.

Design which enhances experience through improved functionality is more than art. It's about an emotional bond between the user and the space, where the user no longer just exists in it but experiences the space fully, with all sensory faculties. This is why, although logon design is highly aesthetic, it refuses the status of ‘useless art’. The logon Shanghai office illustrates this as its users are invited into a new world starting right at the 5 meter tall steel entrance door. There, reminders of the former steel factory are preserved, all in equipping the space with optimal functionality from state-of-the-art lighting, to lit library and sound barriers, to private yet high visibility mezzanine spaces or large, white, open areas for optimal team work.

Finally, in our design, the gap between human and nature forever narrows down to a respectful relationship of interdependence and synergy where humans need nature and nature needs humans. Sloped gardens might enter a residential space or an ecopark might invite visitors through a protective path of discovery.

In essence, the logon design philosophy strives to uphold functional-experiential design, which is reminiscent of the past, highly adapted to today’s needs yet absolutely sustainable tomorrow.

[edit] Team

From management to design teams to the logon lab, all our teams are all bilingual and from a variety of different backgrounds, educations and cultures. We believe that this diversity improves team dynamics and communication. But this diversity also contributes to a highly comprehensive design concept for every project by covering viewpoints and aspects that are outside the realm of “usual” design teams. This daily interaction creates a fresh, cross-industry approach to all of our design. We inject this cross-industry knowledge into each project until our design fully grasps socio-economic, environmental, engineering, business model and marketing implications. This is what we call the logon “plus”.

The logon creative team is made up of skilled and dedicated professionals who take their work to heart, living and breathing each project until completion. Aware of both industry trends worldwide and local cultures and habits, the logon team is able to understand and comprehend what gives each project durable value. To us, a project is not just another task that has to be completed. We are happy to dedicate our experience and excellent educational background into every of our projects, and face any challenge until we succeed.

The logon staff is comprised of architects, urban planners, landscape designers, interior designers, engineers, sociologists, 3D artists, marketing consultants and other professions. They come from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Albania, Bulgaria, the United States, Australia and China. The logon team structure:

• architectural design team • urban planning and urban design team • landscape planning team • technical team • logon lab – research and development • idea visualization team • project coordination team • marketing team

[edit] Focus

logon is a German-based international design office that integrates urban planning, architecture and landscape design to respond to client's challenges by partnering with them to find extraordinary and comprehensive solutions, perfectly tailored to situation and context.

From the Shanghai office, local and international architects, landscape designers, interior designers, urban designers, engineers, 3D artists, sociologists and marketers partner together on all projects. This guarantees that world-class design ideas respect local building code and regulations. Also, the knowledge produced by the interaction of multiple disciplines creates not only beautiful design, but holistic design that responds to vehicle & human flows, business concept and the site’s history.

Thanks to extensive experience in China and international expertise along with a number of industry professionals challenging one another daily, logon offers a wide range of services from feasibility study, to quality design, right through to site service and quality control.

In order to ensure a quality full package approach in urban architecture, landscape and design, projects are carried to completion by four main departments.

The Research & Development (R&D) department analyzes the site, former building uses, traffic flows or local consumer behavior and socio-economic factors that influence local society. Business Marketing Services refines the business concept based on research provided by R&D, to provide the client with the most profitable solution possible. The Design department ensures the concept is translated into strong direction and an aesthetically compelling design. And the Technical department guarantees structural quality during the design stage and top construction implementation in the building phase.

[edit] Sectors

It is forecasted that the world’s population will increase to 9.2 billion by the year 2050 where two thirds of all people will reside in cities. Do you have a project to develop? What will be the main functions and will it be able to sustain demand; tomorrow and for the future?

Our diverse design team has year of experience across numerous project sectors. We know that no matter how nice our design is, it’s fundamental that our clients’ projects are profitable. This is why we have an independent department ‘logon lab’ to dedicate the necessary time to establish the business case for our design direction. Our extensive research includes; historical, cultural, economic, traffic flow, geographic, commercial elements surrounding each site. logon sector project experience include:

• urban planning • hospitality • commercial • office • residential • urban design • renovation • mixed-use • cultural • education • public facilities • business park • high-tech park
