| Notes | Located adjacent to the 'Welcome to Jackson!' sign on US89A, Mad River Boat trips is conceived as a rock, wedged from the earth alongside Flat Creek, with its tumble of boulders, driftwood, concrete, and other site detritus strewn at the base of its eruption from the site. The building’s simple, glazed end facing the highway, reads like a shimmering waterfall to all who pass, creating a dynamic entry marker into Jackson. The building serves as headquarters and warehouse for staging whitewater rafting adventures. Mad River Boat Trips draws from the straight-forward ranch and service structures (barns, hay sheds, and gas stations) of the Wyoming landscape, while dramatically creating a strong totemic landmark within an otherwise nondescript commercial highway strip. The building is an appropriate architectural expression that speaks to the robustness, sophistication, and imagination of the owner, as well as the mythic individualism of the Wyoming experience. |
