"Designed to bring together microbiologists from three different departments -- bacteriology, food microbiology and toxicology, and medical microbiology and immunology -- this building meets high-security and bio-containment needs by grouping labs into five neighborhoods. Each provides a self-contained research environment for three to five research groups. The neighborhoods are connected by a light-filled atrium that serves as a main street and offers social and assembly opportunities. A 500-seat symposium center serves the departments and is also available for other events. " — Chronicle of Higher Education
