- Affiliated with several historical and preservation organizations and is a past president of the California Preservation Foundation (CPF) and past chairs of the State Historical Building Safety Board, the State Historical Resources Commission, and the Historic State Capitol Commission.
- Previously an instructor of architecture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (1969-1970), and at Southwestern Community College (1976-1984).
