As advocates of exposed building systems, the client see the design as a celebration of their work and of the trades involved in the process, as well as an expression of the drawings they interpret every day. The design is also intended to be a vivid contrast to the traditional approach to tenant interior space seen throughout the light industrial complex in which the office is located.
Vertical wall planes establish a vital connection between floors and at the same time lend structure to open plan areas. Common function areas facilitate centralized coordination between disparate but interrelated activities. Transitions between closed and open space were achieved through variations in building material transparency and density.
Both the client and architect shared values about sustainability, health and the work environment. This is articulated through:
. A well organized space plan responsive to the activities of the people involved
. Workspaces with generous storage and appropriate work surfaces
. Abundant natural light
. Extensive use of recycled/recyclable and local building materials
. Use of low VOC and unfinished materials
