One of the most distinctive qualities of the Pierce Street home is its loyalty to San Francisco neighborhood character. By preserving key elements that identify its Victorian charm, the renovation became a thoughtful meditation on infusing modernity and sustainability into traditional architecture. Modern design concepts, including the use of sustainable materials such as solar panels, reclaimed wood floors, and recycled denim insulation, were introduced to the existing structure and open, light-filled spaces were created through the movement of the existing walls, floors, and roof. A newly formed upper level roof garden maximizes outdoor accessibility and helps to flood the main living space with natural light and views that can be thoroughly appreciated.
