[edit] Projects

The existing Emerson High School and Union Hill High School will be relocated to this new 366,400-square-foot high school, which is designed to accomodate 1,700 students. The educational spaces are housed in a four-story, L-shaped classroom wing with two stories of shared activity spaces located at the core of the school. Program features include 66 classrooms, home economics rooms, art and dance studios, technology labs, media center, gymnasium, cafeteria, an outdoor courtyard and a 900-seat performing arts auditorium—a first for the district.

The unique feature of this design is a rooftop athletic facility featuring a regulation-sized high school baseball field, a soccer/football field, a grandstand area, locker rooms and a concession stand. Bleacher seating in this new arena will accommodate 2,000 spectators.

  • Hudson County Community College - Culinary Arts Institute, Jersey City, NJ

The HCCC Culinary Arts Institute, a 72,500-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, includes a 300-seat banquet hall, a pre-function room with bar, 60-seat fine dining room, two bakery kitchens with labs, two hot food kitchens, and two garde manger kitchens. The SMART classrooms offer the latest in wireless technology. The building was designed for students to study every aspect of the culinary, catering and hospitality management industries. The HCCC Culinary Arts program is one of two programs in the entire New York region to be fully accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC).

Dr. John Grieco Elementary School is the first new school to open in the City of Englewood in over half a century. The 90,000-square-foot, three-story, state-of-the-art facility houses 48 classrooms, art and music rooms, faculty lounges, a library/media center, gymnasium, and a colorful cafeteria that doubles as a multipurpose room. Ornate brick and masonry work adorns the exterior of the building, while an arched metal awning and two-story curtain of green spandrel glass grace the front entranceway. Other design features include energy-efficient lighting, elevator access to the upper floors, tiles made from recycled materials, an outdoor playground and a landscaped courtyard with a sitting area.

  • Ridgefield Public Library, Ridgefield, NJ

The Borough of Ridgefield requested that RSC Architects perform a feasibility study of the public library to assess handicap accessibility options and the condition of the building in general. The report resulted in the demolition of the existing multistory building and the construction of a 14,600-square-foot, one-story modern facility that is easily maintained and provides fully integrated services to the local community.

The new design features a larger children’s area that is separate from, yet accessible to the main library and has an adjoining multipurpose room for program activities. The focal point of the library is the traditional fireplace in the adult reading area, which enhances the warm and inviting atmosphere and muted color palette.

  • Secaucus Public Library & Business Resource Center, Secaucus, NJ

This magnificent two-story structure replaces an older and understated facility. The new design exudes stateliness and importance, appropriate to a public venue. The 24,183-square-foot facility stands prominently in the community, providing a variety of media, programs and public spaces. The interior design features soothing, muted colors and Mission-style furnishings. Areas of studies/learning are recognizable within the library at the first floor; the second floor houses a business resource center, which includes conference rooms for meetings and seminars.

  • Eugenio Maria de Hostos Center for Early Childhood Education, Union City, NJ

This 41,000-square-foot project is located in Union City and is used by Pre-K and 3- and 4-year-old students. The stimulating environment includes 18 classrooms, multipurpose room, child development room, health services suite, full-service kitchen and an administration area. The overall design concept of a lighthouse on the exterior masonry was carried throughout the facility. A fish tank welcomes the students in the lobby; a play structure representing a boat and nautical color selection and floor patterns represent waves.
