"This project on the Isle of Raasay was for the creation of multi-use community hall. A simple building was formed by over-cladding a very large new shed with an untreated larch rainscreen, and left to weather to a silvery grey. By using the slope of the site and creating separate entrances to upper and lower halls, the building avoids the expensive infrastructure and the potential maintenance problems of a lift. The internal spaces are predominantly lined out in wood, and a ground source heat pump with heat recovery minimises energy use. The glazing of the front elevation ensures that users always have a view of the constantly changing light, weather, sea, sky and of the blue hills of the Isle of Skye beyond." -- RIBA
