"As high-performance building design is one of the critical elements of RMI’s mission, the non-profit redesigned their Boulder office with the intention of showcasing tangible and affordable high-performance building strategies."
“This project was aimed at implementing practical tenant fit-out and building retrofit strategies that made sense both financially and environmentally,” noted Greg Franta, VP of RMI’s Built Environment Team. Key tenant energy reduction strategies include:
* Replacing 90 percent of windows with high-performance windows; * Installing new skylights, coordinated with daylight controls, energy-efficient ambient and task lighting, and high-reflective surfaces; * Using ENERGY STAR office equipment; * Installing programmable thermostats with temperature setbacks; and * Replacing exterior incandescent lamps with energy-efficient lighting.
"Completed on a budget of only $24/sq. ft. – which includes furniture, IT, security, and signage – the new facility is expected to cut energy costs by 30-50 percent over the bills of the previous tenants, saving RMI $25,000 - 35,000 over the three-year lease." —RMI
