"This new headquarters for the university's 80-person police department is the first project in a new campus sector linking the university's central campus and science hill. The building is designed to act as a beacon of security for both members of the university community and New Haven residents. The ground floor houses police functions and is in use around the clock. A continuous glass wall at the public edges of the building offers a physical representation of the ideas of community policing embraced by the university's police department. The building also houses the Dixwell-Yale University Community Learning Center, with a computer-learning facility and space for public meetings and childrens programs, " — Chronicle of Higher Education
