For more than two decades, Concord based architectural firm SKL Associates, Inc., has provided architectural services for clients throughout California. SKL was founded by architect Sharad Lal, AIA, who has over thirty years architecture and urban planning experience in the U.S., India and Singapore. The firm’s philosophy is based on applying our artistic skills and technical knowledge in a collaborative manner from conception to completion. Our goal is to provide contemporary, sustainable designs that are responsive to the social and cultural traditions of a community.

SKL has completed new and remodel projects of various types including hospitality, mixed-use, retail, light industrial and residential. We team up with experienced engineering consultants and help select the right contractor to ensure that the construction process unfolds in a satisfactory manner for all stakeholders. Most of our clients have heard about us through “word-of-mouth” and a significant number are repeat customers.

We approach every project with an open mind and encourage others on the team to do the same. At every stage we are responsive to our clients program requirements and budget. In addition, a lot of attention goes into creating buildings that have aesthetic appeal and provide an enhanced user experience.

For over fifteen years we have implemented the use “building information modeling” (BIM) for our projects. This has been instrumental in providing the development teams and reviewing agencies with three-dimensional imagery and visual simulations of designs. The efficiencies achieved in design and production using the latest technologies result in faster turnaround and significant cost savings for our clients.

Our designs have voluntarily provided sustainable features in buildings long before “green” became a buzzword in the construction industry. As an office standard most projects have a combination of “cool-roofs”, day-lighting, enhanced insulation or solar orientation features built-into the design. These measures have helped clients realize operational savings in energy bills and increased comfort level of the indoor environment.
