"This 180,000 sf, Customer Service Center exemplifies active and passive energy efficient design solutions and systems which allow the building to out-perform California State standards by more than 36%. The fundamental client requirement was that the building be an ambassador for energy and resource conserving design to the region, utilizing “off the shelf” technology that could be easily transferred to private sector buildings. The four-story massing is bisected by an existing grove of Redwoods that reaches into the central lobby and anchors the building. The project design includes an employee fitness center, a public cafe, maximized lighting throughout and interior/exterior light shelves at the lower levels to maximize daylight penetration and reduce artificial lighting. The project was designed nine years before USGBC LEED guidlines and was awarded a LEED Platinum-EB rating in 2007."—Williams+Paddon
