Building Details
Client Sendai International Airport
Area 475,000 square feet (44,130 square meters)

"Conceived as a model for Japan's new regional airports, this two-level terminal accommodates domestic and international operations in a compact building with a single identity. Because the airport serves a recreational destination known for its lush setting and unique island environment, HOK and Nikken Sekkei designed the terminal to reflect the serenity of the natural landscape. Domestic and international wings are connected by a central atrium under a gentle triple-wave roof. The 11 aircraft gates are accessed from a tubular concourse." -- HOK
