Commentary

"The chain type and terrace houses, built by Jacobsen in 1950 and 1955, stand on the site of a manor house which was demolished. The orientation of the houses gave rise to problems as the seaside view is eastward. The two-storey chain houses are facing South-East; they have non-symmetric roofs and a particularly close association with the garden. The wind-protected outdoor seats are screened against view from neighbours. The living room area has a rather dramatic effect in relation to its size, with the high-level ribbon of windows on the North side, the steep flight of stairs, and the open connection between the upper floor lounge and the high but narrow dining space at ground floor level. The buildings are erected in yellow brick, with asbestos cement roofing."
