R. H. Robertson, formerly of Potter & Robertson, is known for his interpretation of the Richardsonian Romanesque, here given a slightly Gothic spin. The Parish House was added by architect William Halsey Wood and connected to the church with a cloister.

Hobart B. Upjohn was the son of architect Richard Mitchell Upjohn and the grandson of Richard Upjohn, possibly the most important church architect of the 19th century in the United States. H. B. Upjohn's 1929 modifications at Montclair extended the nave by sixteen feet and added a chapel on the north.
