The designer of St. Mark's Episcopal church in Anaconda was George Hancock (1849-1924), an architect of Fargo, North Dakota who also maintained a branch office in Bozeman during the years when the nearby Anaconda church was built. He was probably assisted by his younger brother Walter Hancock (1865-1929), who had just returned from three years of architectural study at Syracuse University. Hancock is associated with a large number of Episcopal church buildings extending from North Dakota into both Minnesota and Montana. Other Montana work includes the city halls at Butte and Livingston and hotels at both Bozeman and Red Lodge.
