"With its octagonal tower and striking central cupola, this new building is the university's first free-standing church. It stands at the southeastern corner of the university's Great Lawn, with its front entrance opposite that of St. John Hall, the university's liberal-arts building. Inside the church, which seats 500, handcrafted mosaics and stained-glass windows adorn the walls. In the narthex, a 10-foot-tall mosaic designed by artisans in Florence, Italy, details the history of the Vincentian community of priests and brothers, who founded St. John's in 1870. There are also separate shrines within the church honoring the Blessed Mother, St. Thomas More, and the victims of September 11. The church also houses meeting rooms and the offices of the university's campus ministry. " — Chronicle of Higher Education
