This building is actually two buildings from the 1840s (front and back with a courtyard) that Louis Sheinhart pulled together on a narrow tenement lot in the Lower East Side. It is his last building in New York. His best known building was the Variety Theater on 3rd avenue and 13th Street which was torn down in January 2007.

The Stanton Street Shul is also on the New York State Register of Buildings of Historic Significance. It is one of the last remaining tenement synagogues in New York City and was built on an 80x20' plot.

It is an active synagogue which also remains attached to its historic, immigrant, Galicianer (Eastern European) roots.
