This major addition to the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) will provide classrooms, collaborative research and office spaces, and an auditorium for the SDSC’s growing program, as well as a new 7,000 square-foot supercomputer machine room and visualization lab. “Research neighborhoods” offices surround flexible meeting and circulation spaces, supporting and promoting the interdisciplinary, team-based culture of the Center. The building is designed with a high-performance skin, naturally ventilated office, daylighting, sunshading, and high efficiency mechanical systems. These sustainable strategies will help it reduce energy use by 60%, achieve LEED Silver rating and provide a healthy, collaborative environment for the world-class institution.
