“Endless variety within a distinct identity.” Adhering to this design principle created a place that generates wide appeal, extends stays and encourages repeat visitation. Achieving these three goals is critical to the success of any public space. The TEDA Promenades makes a grand statement, organizing its facilities around a central thematic element, an enormous elliptical lagoon. The Lagoon is the entertainment and environmental nucleus of the Promenades. This extroverted approach allows guests to remain oriented within the complexity of the space, while an assembly of icons encourages them to move throughout the site. This development structure is consistent with modern urban core developments and the exposition style of recent World Fairs. Along with the world class, 90,000 M2 convention center that hosts the World Economic Forum, the younger sibling to the highly acclaimed World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Promenades are home to a professional soccer stadium, and a major retail and entertainment center is in pre-construction. Construction is underway on 5,000 homes in over 40 towers.
